Why hire talents from Morocco

Morocco boasts a growing pool of skilled professionals, making it an attractive destination for international organizations seeking to expand their operations. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the literacy rate in Morocco is on the rise, reflecting the country’s commitment to education and workforce development. This trend is particularly appealing to global businesses, as it indicates a readily available supply of educated and proficient candidates.

In addition to a high literacy rate, Morocco offers several competitive advantages, such as lower labor costs and access to a diverse talent pool. By hiring local talents, companies can benefit from unique perspectives and a deep understanding of the Moroccan market, which can contribute to long-term success. When partnering with Breedj, organizations can capitalize on these advantages and seamlessly integrate Moroccan talents into their teams, fueling growth and innovation.

Employment contracts in Morocco should be drafted in accordance with best practices, and it is recommended to use the local language to ensure clear communication and understanding. Breedj can assist with creating compliant contracts that adhere to Moroccan labor laws.

Employee probation periods in Morocco are regulated by the Labor Code, which sets maximum time limits depending on the job category: 15 days for manual workers, six weeks for employees, and three months for managerial staff. The probationary period can only be renewed once for the same length of time.

The standard work week in Morocco consists of 44 hours, or eight hours a day, Mondays to Fridays. Overtime is permitted under specific circumstances, such as tasks in the national interest or exceptional increases in workload. Workers in non-agricultural activities receive a premium of 25 percent for extra hours worked between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., 50 percent for hours worked between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and increased premiums for overtime on rest days and paid holidays.

Employment termination in Morocco

Understanding and complying with employment termination policies in Morocco is crucial for maintaining a positive employer-employee relationship and avoiding legal disputes. Breedj can help manage the termination process, ensuring adherence to local regulations.

The Moroccan Labor Code prohibits employee dismissal without a valid reason, either related to the employee’s aptitude or behavior (dismissal for personal reasons) or the operational needs of the company (dismissal for technological, structural, or economic reasons). Dismissal for personal reasons may be justified due to the employee’s incapacity or disciplinary reasons, while economic dismissal pertains to reasons unrelated to the employee’s performance.

Notice periods in Morocco are dependent on the length of service, as follows:

  • Less than one year of service: one month’s notice
  • Two to nine years of service: two months’ notice
  • More than nine years of service: three months’ notice

Severance pay eligibility and calculation are based on the employee’s length of service and hours of pay. Severance pay is due after six months of service and varies according to the duration of employment.

By partnering with Breedj, your organization will benefit from expert guidance and support during the termination process, ensuring compliance with Moroccan labor laws and a smooth transition for both parties.
