Moving your employees to Mozambique

Mozambique is an emerging market with significant economic growth potential, making it an attractive destination for businesses looking to expand their global footprint. The country boasts a wealth of natural resources, a growing consumer base, and strategic location along the Indian Ocean. The government has been working to create a stable and investor-friendly environment, ensuring a favorable climate for international businesses.

The official language in Mozambique is Portuguese, but English is widely spoken, especially in the business community. Additionally, many indigenous languages are spoken throughout the country, showcasing its rich cultural diversity.

There are several reasons why international businesses may want to expand their operations to Mozambique. The country offers a young and growing labor force, providing a wealth of talent and workforce options for businesses. Furthermore, the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic diversification has created numerous opportunities for investment and growth across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, and tourism.

Key immigration facts about Mozambique

Navigating the immigration process in Mozambique can be complex, but Breedj is here to assist you with essential information and guidance. Here are some crucial immigration facts to consider when planning your relocation:

A valid passport and entry visa are required for entry into Mozambique. Exceptions include South African and Zimbabwean passport holders, who are exempt from the visa requirement for stays up to 30 days.

Business visas are multiple-entry and valid for three months, with the option to renew for an equal period. Each entry allows a stay of up to 30 days.

Residence/work visas are single-entry and valid for 30 days. They can be extended for the duration of the work permit, which is obtainable outside Mozambique for individuals intending to reside or work in the country.

Foreign nationals must secure a work permit, valid for up to two years and renewable, to work in Mozambique. Companies may employ a certain percentage of foreign nationals without a work permit, subject to notifying the Ministry of Labor.

Self-employed individuals, shareholders, or shareholder representatives in Mozambique must also obtain work authorization in their personal capacity.

Work visas are valid for the duration of the work permit (maximum two years) and permit multiple entries. After the validity period, individuals may reapply for work authorization or permits.
