Moving your employees to Gabon

Gabon is a rapidly developing country located in Central Africa, with a diverse economy that offers significant opportunities for international businesses. The country is known for its vast mineral resources, including oil, manganese, and uranium, which are key contributors to its economy. Additionally, Gabon is investing heavily in developing its infrastructure and diversifying its economy, making it an attractive destination for businesses looking to expand their operations.

Political stability is another factor that makes Gabon an ideal destination for international businesses. The country has a stable and democratic government, with a legal system based on French civil law. The government has implemented a range of reforms aimed at improving the business environment, including simplifying administrative procedures, reducing bureaucracy, and improving transparency.

The official language of Gabon is French, but many other languages are spoken throughout the country, including Fang, Myene, and Bapounou/Betie. This linguistic diversity is a reflection of the country’s rich cultural heritage, which is an essential part of Gabonese society.

Gabon offers a dynamic and attractive business environment for international organizations looking to expand their operations. Its rich natural resources, stable political environment, and commitment to economic development make it an ideal destination for businesses seeking to establish a presence in the region.

Key immigration facts about Gabon

Navigating the immigration and visa process can be a complex and time-consuming task, especially for international businesses operating in Gabon. At Breedj, we have extensive experience in providing visa and immigration assistance to our clients, helping them navigate the complexities of Gabon’s immigration system.

Gabonese authorities issue two types of visas, which vary depending on the duration of the permissible stay in Gabon. The tourist visa is granted to non-professional visitors and has a duration of one month, which can be extended to a maximum of three months. On the other hand, the business visa is granted to foreign workers or businesspersons coming into Gabon for a period that does not exceed three months. They are exempt from the entry authorization requirement, but they must state in writing their qualifications and describe the contacts they will meet during their stay in Gabon.

For individuals who will stay in Gabon for a period longer than three months for the performance of a remunerated activity, their employer must apply to the Ministry of Labor for an employment authorization (if the employee is less than 60 years of age) and a foreign worker card. They must also apply and submit appropriate documentation to the immigration authorities for an entry authorization for the long term. They must apply to the immigration authorities for a residency card and an exit visa if applicable.

VAT in Gabon

Value-added tax (VAT) is an essential consideration for businesses operating in Gabon, and at Breedj, we have the expertise and knowledge to assist our clients with their VAT needs in Gabon.

In Gabon, VAT is imposed on the supply of goods and services and on the import of goods or services. The standard rate is 18%, and it applies to most goods and services. However, a reduced rate of 10% applies to some goods, including mineral water produced in Gabon, imported meat and chickens, sugar, laptops and desktops, canned vegetables and fruits, and replacement parts for cars, among others.

A 5% rate applies to cement, and a 0% rate applies to qualifying exports that have been properly declared to customs and international carriages. It is essential to note that Gabon’s VAT laws are subject to change, and it is crucial to work with a partner like Breedj who stays up-to-date with the latest regulations and requirements.
