Zimbabwe is a country that offers many opportunities for international organizations looking to expand their operations in Africa. According to the latest World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index, Zimbabwe ranks 140th out of 190 economies globally, reflecting its ongoing efforts to improve its business climate. While the country still faces some challenges in terms of access to credit and enforcing contracts, it has made significant progress in areas such as starting a business, registering property, and getting electricity.
For global organizations considering Zimbabwe as a potential market, it’s important to understand the implications of the country’s ranking in the Ease of Doing Business Index. Despite its challenges, Zimbabwe offers many unique advantages, including a large and growing consumer market, access to natural resources, and a strategic location in Southern Africa. By partnering with an experienced EOR provider like Breedj, international organizations can navigate the complexities of the country’s labor laws and regulations and take advantage of its many business opportunities.
At Breedj, we have a deep understanding of the local market and can provide valuable insights and guidance to our clients looking to expand their operations in Zimbabwe. Our Zimbabwe EOR solutions enable international organizations to access local talent, set up a compliant payroll system, and handle all legal and regulatory requirements, while maintaining full control over their operations. With our help, global organizations can focus on growing their business and achieving their strategic objectives in Zimbabwe with confidence.
For global companies looking to hire in Zimbabwe, there are two main options: set up their own entity in the country or use an Employer of Record (EOR) solution like Breedj. While establishing a legal entity may provide greater control over operations, it can be a risky and time-consuming process that requires a deep understanding of local labor laws and regulations. By contrast, Breedj’s EOR solutions provide a fast and compliant way to hire employees in Zimbabwe, without the need to establish a legal entity.
At Breedj, we provide a complete range of EOR solutions in Zimbabwe that cover all aspects of the employment process, from recruitment to payroll management. Our experienced team of experts can provide valuable guidance on local employment laws and regulations, helping international organizations navigate the complexities of the country’s labor market. We can also provide customized solutions to meet the specific needs of each client, ensuring that they can find and hire the right employees quickly and efficiently.
With Breedj’s EOR solutions in Zimbabwe, international organizations can rest assured that their employees are being hired in compliance with local labor laws and regulations. This includes adhering to statutory requirements such as employee probation periods, annual leave entitlements, and maternity leave policies. Our EOR solutions also enable clients to manage their employees’ salaries and benefits in a streamlined and efficient way, ensuring that they are paid on time and in full.

Understanding the statutory labor laws in Zimbabwe is essential for global organizations looking to hire employees in the country. The Labor Act of 1985 sets out the legal framework for employment in Zimbabwe and covers key areas such as employee probation periods, annual leave entitlements, maternity leave, paternity leave, and sick leave. At Breedj, we have extensive knowledge of these laws and regulations and can help international organizations navigate them through our Zimbabwe Employer of Record (EOR) solutions.
Employee probation period is an important concept to understand when hiring employees in Zimbabwe. The Labor Act specifies that a single, non-renewable probationary period can be used in the following manner: one day in the case of casual work or seasonal work; or three months in any other case.
Annual leave entitlements in Zimbabwe are provided to employees who complete one year of service with their employer. The Labor Act provides for paid annual leave at the rate of one twelfth (30 calendar days; 22 working days) of the employee’s qualifying service in each year of employment, unless more favorable provisions are provided in an employment contract or collective agreement.
Maternity leave in Zimbabwe is granted to female employees for a period of 98 days on full pay. The employee may proceed on maternity leave not earlier than the forty-fifth day and not later than the twenty-first day prior to the expected date of delivery. Paid maternity leave is granted only once during any period of twenty-four months calculated from the day any previous maternity leave was granted. The law also limits the number of times (to three only) when maternity leave can be availed by a worker while working with a specific employer.
Paternity leave is not currently provided for under Zimbabwean law.
Sick leave in Zimbabwe is only granted by a duly registered medical practitioner. Employers may provide paid sick leave during any one-year period of service as follows: 100% of wages during the first three months of sick leave; 50% of wages for further three months.
By partnering with Breedj for their EOR needs in Zimbabwe, international organizations can rest assured that their employees will be hired in compliance with these labor laws and regulations. We can provide valuable guidance on these requirements and ensure that our clients are fully compliant with local laws, while minimizing any administrative burden.

Zimbabwe has a limited social security system, with the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) being the primary provider of social security benefits. NSSA contributions are payable at the same rate of 4.5% of basic salary by both the employer and the employee. The maximum amount of monthly insurable earnings has been revised from ZWL 5,000 to 75% of the previous month’s Total Consumption Poverty Line (TCPL) for an average of five persons per household, with effect from 12 June 2021.
While the NSSA provides some basic social security benefits, many Zimbabwean workers and their families remain underinsured or uninsured, which can leave them vulnerable to financial hardships in the event of an illness or disability. As an Zimbabwe Employer of Record (EOR) provider, Breedj can help international organizations ensure that their employees have access to the best possible social security benefits, including medical, life, and disability insurance.
Through our EOR solutions in Zimbabwe, we can help clients set up a comprehensive and compliant social security system that meets the needs of their employees. We work with top insurance providers to offer competitive and flexible coverage options that can be customized to meet the specific requirements of each client. We can also provide guidance and support on issues such as claims management and compliance with local regulations.
By partnering with Breedj for their EOR needs in Zimbabwe, international organizations can ensure that their employees are well-protected and have access to the social security benefits they need to thrive. Our expertise and commitment to compliance can help clients navigate the complex landscape of social security in Zimbabwe with confidence, while minimizing the administrative burden and costs associated with providing comprehensive coverage.
