Ease of doing business in Nigeria

Nigeria, as a fast-growing economy, is a strategic market for global organizations seeking to expand their operations in Africa. According to the World Bank’s latest index, Nigeria ranks 131 out of 190 countries in the ease of doing business ranking, with a score of 56.9 out of 100.

Despite the country’s significant economic potential, the ranking implies that it can be challenging for international organizations to navigate the regulatory environment in Nigeria. The ranking takes into account several factors such as starting a business, registering property, getting credit, and enforcing contracts.

At Breedj, we understand the importance of doing business compliantly in Nigeria, which is why our Nigeria EOR services ensure that our clients adhere to local employment laws and regulations. Our in-depth knowledge of the Nigerian market and labor laws, coupled with our extensive network of local partners and experts, helps our clients overcome the challenges of doing business in Nigeria seamlessly.

By partnering with Breedj, global organizations can benefit from our expertise in navigating the complexities of the Nigerian regulatory environment. We help our clients minimize the risk of non-compliance and ensure a smooth and compliant hiring process, saving them time and resources in the long run.

Hiring in Nigeria

Global organizations looking to expand their operations in Nigeria face a crucial decision when it comes to hiring: either set up their own entity or use an EOR service provider. While setting up a local entity may seem like a viable option, it comes with significant risks, including navigating local regulatory requirements and the cost and time associated with establishing a legal presence.

Breedj’s EOR solution provides a more straightforward and cost-effective way for organizations to establish a legal presence in Nigeria. As an EOR provider, Breedj takes on the responsibilities of an employer, including payroll, taxes, and compliance with local employment laws. Our EOR services provide global organizations with access to local talent, enabling them to enter the Nigerian market quickly and compliantly.

Using Breedj’s Nigeria EOR services is the preferred option for global organizations. Our solutions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each client, and our team of local experts ensures that our clients remain compliant with Nigerian employment laws.

By partnering with Breedj, global organizations can enjoy the benefits of hiring local talent while avoiding the risks and costs associated with setting up their own entity in Nigeria. Our EOR services provide a reliable and compliant solution, enabling our clients to focus on their core business operations and drive growth in the Nigerian market.

Statutory labor laws in Nigeria

Employers operating in Nigeria must comply with local labor laws to ensure a fair and equitable workplace. Below are some of the essential statutory labor laws in Nigeria that employers need to be aware of:

Employee Probation Period: While the law does not prescribe the maximum length of probation periods, in practice, probationary periods for employees typically last between three (3) and six (6) months.

Annual Leave in Nigeria: Workers are entitled to at least six working days of annual leave with full salary. The annual leave is increased to at least twelve working days for young workers (under sixteen), including apprentices. Workers must have worked for at least twelve months to qualify for annual leave.

Maternity Leave in Nigeria: Female employees are generally entitled to 12 weeks of maternity leave at 50% of pay.

Paternity Leave in Nigeria: Paid paternity leave is available in the Lagos and Enugu States for 2 weeks and 3 weeks, respectively.

Sick Leave in Nigeria: In general, employees are entitled to 12 days of paid sick leave per year.

At Breedj, we understand the complexities of local employment laws in Nigeria and ensure that our clients comply with all statutory labor laws. Our Nigeria EOR services provide reliable and compliant solutions, enabling our clients to operate legally and efficiently.

Social security in Nigeria

Employers in Nigeria are required to provide social security benefits to their employees. The Nigerian Pension Reform Act of 2014 established a mandatory contributory pension scheme, which requires employers to contribute a minimum of 10% of an employee’s monthly emoluments, while employees contribute a minimum of 8%.

Monthly emoluments are defined as the total emoluments in the employee’s employment contract but cannot be less than the sum of basic salary, housing allowance, and transport allowance.

At Breedj, we ensure that our clients comply with the mandatory pension scheme and make the necessary contributions for their employees. Our EOR services provide a reliable and compliant solution, enabling our clients to manage their payroll obligations seamlessly.

In addition to the pension scheme, employers in Nigeria are also required to provide medical insurance for their employees. The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was established to provide affordable healthcare services to Nigerians, including employees. While enrollment in the NHIS is not mandatory for employers, providing medical insurance to employees is still a legal requirement.

Breedj’s EOR services in Nigeria include managing social security benefits and medical insurance for our clients’ employees. We ensure that our clients remain compliant with all statutory requirements, enabling them to operate legally and efficiently in Nigeria.
