Navigating the statutory labor laws in Mali can be challenging, but Breedj’s local expertise ensures your organization remains compliant with all relevant regulations. Here’s an overview of key labor laws to be aware of when hiring employees in Mali:
Employee probation period: In Mali, the probationary period must not exceed six months. This allows both the employer and employee to evaluate their working relationship before entering into a long-term commitment.
Annual leave in Mali: Employees accrue annual leave at a rate of two and a half days per month of work, totaling 30 calendar days per year (including weekends). For convenience, this is generally considered equivalent to 22 working days per year.
Maternity leave in Mali: Female employees are entitled to 14 weeks of maternity leave, with six weeks to be taken before the birth and eight weeks postpartum.
Paternity leave in Mali: Male employees are entitled to three days of paternity leave, allowing them to support their partner and bond with their newborn child.
Sick leave in Mali: Employees receive sick leave with a doctor’s certificate. Until a health insurance plan is established per the Social Security Code, provisions of the Labor Code apply. During sick leave, employees receive 100% of their earnings for a period ranging from eight days to three months, depending on collective agreements or the type of employment. From the second year of employment, employees receive 50% of their earnings for up to an additional month.
By partnering with Breedj, you can rest assured that your organization will remain compliant with these and other labor laws in Mali, mitigating risk and ensuring a smooth operation in the country.

In Mali, both employers and employees contribute to social security tax funds, which cover healthcare and pension provisions. It is essential to understand and comply with these regulations to ensure the financial well-being of your employees and maintain a positive standing with local authorities.
Employees contribute 3.6% of their pre tax salary to social security. This amount is automatically deducted from their gross pay, providing them with access to healthcare services and retirement benefits. On the other hand, employers are responsible for contributing 35% of each employee’s gross salary to social security. This employer contribution helps fund healthcare, pension, and other social welfare benefits for employees in Mali.
As your trusted Mali EOR partner, Breedj manages these social security contributions on behalf of your organization. We ensure that all payments are made accurately and on time, in compliance with Malian regulations. Our expert team handles the administrative tasks associated with social security contributions, allowing you to focus on your core business activities.
