Statutory labor laws in Gambia

Employee Probation Period: In Gambia, the probationary period for employees shall not exceed 12 months. This provides both employers and employees ample time to assess suitability for the role.

Maternity Leave: Female employees with at least two years of continuous service with the same employer, or those who meet specific criteria regarding service interruptions, are entitled to maternity leave. Social security in Gambia

Industrial Injuries Compensation Fund (IICF): Employers are obligated to pay 1% of an employee’s gross monthly earnings, up to a maximum of DMD 15 per employee per month, to the SSHFC. This fund provides support for employees who suffer work-related injuries or illnesses.

Tax Implications: Employer contributions to an approved retirement fund for resident employees are tax-deductible for Corporate Income Tax (CIT) purposes, up to a maximum of 25% of an employee’s annual employment income paid by the employer.
